Our Practice Approach

Initial Consultation

Once we receive a referral from your doctor, Dr McDarra’s staff will contact you to arrange an appointment time for your initial consultation. Occasionally, Dr McDarra may request further imaging to be done prior to your initial appointment. If this is necessary our reception staff will contact you. Once you are offered an appointment with Dr McDarra you may complete our on-line New Patient Registration form and click the link to email it to us.

At your initial consultation Dr McDarra will discuss your medical history, examine you thoroughly and he will formulate a plan for your care and treatment. He may require you to undergo further investigations if necessary.  If you are informed surgical treatment is recommended, Dr McDarra will answer any questions you may have and he may give you some information to take away to help you prepare for surgery.

What to Bring

  • Your referral from your GP
  • Medicare card
  • Private Health Insurance card / details
  • DVA card (where applicable)
  • X-Rays, MRIs, CT scans, reports or other information deemed relevant to your condition
  • Work Cover Claim number and Case Manager details, (where applicable)
  • A list of questions you may have for your surgeon
  • A support person if you require help to process any of the information and assist you in the decision making process.

Cancelling your Appointment

Please telephone our office during business hours and allow at least 24 – 48 hours notice so that we can offer your appointment time to other patients waiting for treatment.

Dr McDarra prides himself on not keeping you waiting however occasionally he may need to spend a little more time with his patient and this may cause scheduling delays beyond our control. Where possible, we will advise you if Dr is running late and we apologise in advance if you are kept waiting.

Post-operative Appointments

Dr McDarra recommends patients return for an appointment after their surgery to check on progress and recovery. This appointment is likely to take place two weeks after you are discharged from hospital.

After-hours service

Dr McDarra also provides a comprehensive 24/7 after-hours service for patients on whom he has recently performed surgery.  If you are in need of after-hours care, Dr McDarra's contact number is : (07) 4727 4243
